Barry Claughton
Barry Claughton
I was born at Leeds in 1935
My early Art training was at St Mark’s and St John’s College in Chelsea. This was followed by a science degree in Geography and Geology at Birkbeck College London
I started to exhibit and sell my paintings in the 1960s while teaching at Roundhay High School, before becoming a full time artist in 1989
I have always had a broad interest in Art and I am equally happy working in oils, acrylics, water colours or pastels
I enjoy painting landscapes and portraits and have painted many dogs, railway engines, aeroplanes, boats, flowers, animals, birds, etc.
My work is seen on a large number of prints and cards
In a long career my painting has developed in different styles and been taken to very many countries
Over the years I have given hundreds of talks and painting demonstrations to Art Clubs throughout the north of England, many for Daler-Rowney
I have always been involved with Art Clubs and for many years was President of The Leeds Painting and Sketching Club. I still run the Art group at Oakwood Church
