Walk Around The Clock
The house at 6 Oakwood Lane is the former home of wrestling dynasty the de Relwyskow family
Since 1936 three generations had lived there. In 2003 when the house was emptied it contained literally a ton of memorabilia
Not many people are aware that the family included
A double Olympic Medal winner
A secret agent
A TV star and international champion
Relwyskow and Green promotions Ltd were part of Joint Promotions which staged up to 4,500 live shows a year throughout the UK and, of course, on Television
In the middle 1900s the first floor in an unusual building, now Rico's Italian restaurant on Roundhay Road, was used as a Wrestling Gym. It was accessed by a door on Oakwood Boundary Road
Wrestling matches were staged at the Astoria Ballroom
‘The Gipton Hotel’ now called ‘The Roundhay’, was a regular Sunday lunchtime social venue frequented by those involved in wrestling
